The natural, innate longing for a state of psychological well-being is obstructed by a rigid body and stressed, tense mind. Today there are many people who are looking for this sense of all round well-being. The tendency is to "do" with the body instead of "feel" with the body. We do everything so mechanically we have forgotten how to get in touch with and to feel the body's rich orchestra of sensations. This separation from our own experience brings with it negative repercussions such as developmental disabilities, mental illness, suffering and a weakened immune system.
Ayurvedic massage is a panacea to many of these ailments. Energetic, holistic and intuitive, it works on the muscular and circulatory system as well as using techniques of energy exchange between those who perform and those who receive massage. The receiver experiences a state of deep relaxation and well-being. From the physical point of view the result is stimulation of the lymphatic system and improvement of arterial and venal circulation. In addition it increases metabolism and improves the elimination of waste and toxins, lengthens and relaxes soft tissues and improves the movement of the joints creating a warmth of life. From the subtlest point of view it facilitates a balance of energy leading to an overall feeling of well-being, deep physical and mental relaxation, awareness of the body's sensations, increased perception and ultimately the feeling of being at home in one's own body.
After this physical restoration, the ayurvedic massage becomes meditative. Everything happens through conscious touch. Touch has its' own language which shows trust, love, joy and solidarity. The therapist extends their compassion and empathy. Through therapeutic hands one can give and receive this nourishing experience. Perhaps it is because many have lost contact with the body that they give increasing time and energy to situations that further alienate them from their bodies. We devote too little time to this simple form of healing that comes from human warmth. This simple human kindness can become a powerful dimension of our everyday lives.
